Nissan Leaf Electric Car

It would be easy to paint Nissan as late to the burgeoning U.S. green party, as the company essentially only counts the Altima Hybrid to sell among its alt-fuel offerings – and that sedan utilizes technology borrowed from Toyota, and it's only sold in a few states in small volumes. While that may be the case, Nissan says their near-term prospects are really quite different. While the company has admittedly been cautious in marketing alt-fuel vehicles in North America, they have been hard at work developing electric vehicles – as well as the advanced lithium-ion batteries to support them – since 1992. What's more, officials say they are now singularly well-placed to leapfrog "transitional" powertrain solutions like gas-electric hybrids in favor of genuine zero-emissions vehicles.

Nissan GT-R Racing

Sunday, November 8th saw the final round of the 2009 SUPER GT series taken place at Twin Ring Motegi. Aiming at title glory, the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (#1 – Satoshi Motoyama / Benoit Treuyer) qualified in fifth place and put in a spirited drive in the race until tyre trouble slowed the car's progress. The results netted third place for Satoshi Motoyama in the Driver's standings, while NISMO were third in the Team's title fight. The final race of the season saw over 35,000 race fans crowd into the circuit. Under cloudy skies that occasionally allowed the sun to peek through, the 250-km event got underway. Being the final round of the year, all entries ran without the customary ‘handi-weight' (success ballast), and the race itself was 50kms shorter than the norm. The ambient temperature stood at 20 degrees Celsius, under dry track conditions. Starting from fifth on the grid, the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (#1 – Satoshi Motoyama / Benoit Treluyer) began the race leading the championship. “We plan to move up the order right from the start” related NISMO Team Director Yutaka Suzuki before the race began. Starting driver Benoit Treluyer immediately attacked the car in front, resulting in a thrilling battle for 4th place with the #38 LEXUS SC430. On lap 4, he got past the #38 car, but because of excessive tyre wear due to his extreme, offensive driving he was forced to slow his pace. From there he waited patiently, expecting to stop on lap 18. However, unable to endure, his tyre went flat on the lap before his stop. Following this, the burst tyre tore apart the front fender, which was repaired at the pit stop. It was at this point the title slipped from the team's grasp.

Square Technology by Nissan

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and PT. Nissan Motor Indonesia will present the “NISSAN TECHNOLOGY SQUARE” event at the Kelapa Gading Mall in Jakarta, Indonesia. The public automotive technologies showcase opens today and runs through August 25. Indonesia is the second market where we hold this event. After completing its run in Indonesia, the Nissan Technology Square will visit several cities in multiple markets, including Singapore, Malaysia and India, etc. At the Nissan Technology Square, Nissan will showcase how the company’s automotive technologies address the environment, safety and innovation. Visitors can experience examples of Nissan’s innovation and the future of automobiles through the exhibition, interactive displays and demonstrations. Nissan chose PIVO2, an environmentally focused, electric urban commuter, as a key communications character for the event. First presented as one of the key concept vehicles at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the vehicle embodies “friendly innovation” to create a new car-driver relationship. As such, PIVO2 serves as an ideal focal point for the Nissan Technology Square, where a quarter scale model of the vehicle will be displayed.
